The 26/11 refers to the Mumbai attacks in 2008 done by the lashkar-e-taiba of Pakistan. In the attacks, a total of 10 terrorists entered mumbai port via hijacking a boat of fishermen of Mumbai. They killed all the fishermen after reaching the shore of Mumbai. According to reports they told fishermen to mind their own business after being interrogated by them.
A total of 175 people died and more than 200 were injured in the terrorist attack.
Then they split up and reached the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, The Oberoi Trident, The Taj Palace and tower, The Leopold Cafe, The Cama Hospital, The Nariman House, The Metro Cinema and a lane behind Times of India building and St. Xavier’s College.
The attacks were pre planned as they were given the blueprints of their targets.
Attack on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus :-
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was attacked by Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan. They attacked at 9:30 pm. When both terrorists open fired using their AK-47 Rifles. Resulting in the death of 58 people and 104 others were injured. Vishnu Dattaram Shinde alerted passengers of terrorist attack and saved many lives. The Special Forces arrived shortly but both the terrorist fled the scene by killing people passing by and also killed 8 police officers.
Attack on Cama Hospital :-
After attacking Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus they headed to Cama Hospital to kill the patients but the hospital staff locked all the wards in order to save the patients. Ajmal and Kasab attacked on a police vehicle and the police also fired in response but Karkare, Vijay Salaskar, and Ashiok Kamte along with one more officer were killed. The sole survivor of the attack, Constable Arun Jadhav informed the police about the seizing and abandoning of a police vehicle and seizing another passenger vehicle. According to the information Police, made a road block and the terrorist ran into it. After a gun battle in which Ismail Khan was killed and Ajmal Kasab was injured and arrested. A police Officer Tukaran Omble was killed in an attempt to take the gun from Khasab.
Attack on Leopold Cafe in 26/11 :-
It was one of the first sites of 26/11 attacks, which was attacked on the evening of 26 November between 9:30 pm and 9:48 pm. Two terrorists Soheb and Abu Umer carried out this attack. They opened fire at the cafe resulting in the death of 10 people and injuring many more.
Attack on Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Oberoi Trident in 26/11 :-
Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and The Oberoi Trident were one of the targeted locations of terrorists. A total of 6 Bombs were reported on the Taj. Firefighters rescued 200 hostages from windows using the ladder. During the onslaught 31 People Died and 28 were hurt. The hotel staff was praised for their dedication to duty and desired to protect their guests. The staff created a human shield to protect their guests and a total of 11 Taj staff were killed in protecting 1200-1500 guests.
Attack on Nariman House :-
Nariman house was taken over by two terrorists in 26/11. They held many hostages in the building. The police quickly evacuated the adjacent buildings and also wounded one of the attackers. After that, NSG commandos arrived from Delhi, and did an aerial survey from a naval helicopter. During the first day, nine hostages were rescued from the top of the building. After that, NSG commandos stormed into the house and after a long battle both the terrorists were killed and Sergeant Gajendra Singh Bisht was martyred in the battle with terrorists.
Connection with Pakistan :-
India claimed that the terrorists camed from Pakistan and their controllers were in Pakistan. At first, Pakistan declined their role in the attack but later confirmed that the sole survivor was the citizen of Pakistan. On 9 April 2015, the mastermind of the attack, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, who was arrested in Pakistan, got bailed out and disappeared and was arrested again in Lahore on 2 January 2021. The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif said that the Pakistan Government played a role on 2008 Mumbai attack popularly known as 26/11.
