The Border Security Force(BSF) is an Indian agency assigned to protect the border of India with Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is the world’s largest border guarding force including the 192 battalions with a total of 2,70,363 personnels.
It is the only Central Armed Police Force to have a Water Wing, Air Wing and Artillery Regiment.

History of BSF :-
The BSF was created after the Indo-Pakistani War 1965. Before that, state police were responsible for the protection of the International border. On 9 April 1965, after the attack of Pakistan at Sardar post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet and the inefficiency of the State Armed Police Force to cope with the armed aggression of Pakistan.

After the End of War with India’s victory, the Indian Government created the BSF as a Central Agency Force guarding the International Border. K.F. Rustamji, was the first Director General of the BSF.
Role in Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 :-
Its capabilities were used in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It was deployed in areas where the Regular Force were doing too many things at once. They also took part in several operations including the Battle of Longewala. They also played a crucial role in the Independence of Bangladesh.
