Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will launch two frontline warships of the Indian Navy.

The ship “Surat” was built under the “Project 15B” programme. It is the fourth and last of the stealth destroyers built under the “Project 15B” programme. The first ship of this class was commissioned in 2021. The other ships have been launched and are at different stages of trials.

The second ship will be “Udayagiri” which is the part of the “Project 17A” frigate program. It is the third ship of the “Project 17A” frigates. The first two projects of this programme were launched in 2019 and 2020 and have been designed in-house by the Directorate of Naval Design.
The program will be conducted at Mazgaon Docks Limited in Mumbai on 17 May 2022.
An Indian navy official said “The nation will witness a landmark event in the history of indigineous warship building when two frontline warships of the Indian Navy will be launched concurrently at Mazgaon Docks Limited in Mumbai on 17 May 2022”.
