Droupadi Murmu is the 15th President Of India. She is the first tribal women president of India. She is a self made women who belongs to a very standard family.

Murmu faced a series of challenges in her life. The death of her husband and her two sons made her life more challenging. For anyone to lose a family member is one most painful expereinces in ones life. Losing your children is an unbearable for any one yet she struggled and reached the position of President.

Her life story is very inspiring and every one should read it.

She is a member of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), which is now the ruling party of India.

The BJP’s Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister Of India.

Life Of Droupadi Murmu 

Born on 20 June 1958, in Baidaposi area of Rairangpur from Mayurbhanj district in Odisha. She was born in a Santali family her father and grandfather were the traditional heads of the village council. She is a follower of the Brahma Kumaris sect.

Murmu is an arts graduate of Rama Devi’s Women’s College in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

She was married to Shyam Chandra Murmu, a banker, who died in 2014. The couple had 3 children, two boys both of whom are dead and a girl. She lost her husband, two sons, mother and a brother in a span of 7 Years from 2009-2015. This incident would have shattered her soul but she didn’t lose her hope and her continouos effort made her what she is now !! The First Citizen Of India.

Beginning of Career

She worked as a junior assistant at the irrigation department, Government Of Odisha from 1979 to 1983. She asko worked as a teacher at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre, Rairangpur and taught Hindi, Odia, Maths, Geography.

Rise in Politics 

Droupadi Murmu joined the BJP in Rairangpur. In 1997 she was elected as the councilor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. 

She was the Minister of State with independent charge of Commerce and Transportation from March 6, 2000 to August 6, 2002. She also took charge of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from August 6, 2002 to May 16, 2004.

However, she lost the Lok Sabha election from Mayurbhanj constituency as the BJD and BJP alliance had ended.

Droupadi Murmu- The first women Governor of Jharkhand

Murmu took oath as the Governor Of Jharkhand on 18 May 2015. The BJP was in power in the Jharkhand Government for most of the six year tenure as a governor. 

Ratan Tirkey, a former BJP politician and activist, said that Murmu had not done enough to make sure that the self-governance rights granted to tribal communities were properly implemented. These rights were granted under the Fifth Schedule and the Panchayats (Extension to Schedule Areas) Act, 1996. 

Her six year tenure as Governor ended in July 2021.

Droupadi Murmu as the President Candidate

In June 2022, BJP announced Droupadi Murmu was announced as the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) candidate for the President Of India. 

She went to many states seeking the support for her candidature and many opposition parties like BJD, JMM, BSP,  and SS had announced support to her prior to voting. 

Droupadi Murmu-

On 21 July 2002, Droupadi Murmu secured a clear majority in the 2022 Presidentship election with 6,73,803 electoral votes to become the 15th President Of India.

She was elected as the President of India and will assume office on 25 July 2022. She will take oath of office on the Central Hall Of Parliament by theCJI (Chief Justice Of India), Mr.N.V Ramanna.

Murmu is also the first person from Odisha and the second woman after Pratibha Patil to become the President of India. She will be the first tribal to be elected president. She is the youngest and first individual born after India’s independence in 1947 to have been elected to this post.
