The winner of the first ever IPL season is….RR


The team which won the first ever IPL is Rajasthan Royals(RR).

RR is a cricket franchise team, based in Jaipur,Rajasthan.

The team was founded in 2008  along with the IPL which was started in 2008.

Its current captain is Sanju Samson and its current coach is Trevor Penney.

Its home ground is in Sawai Mansingh Stadium,Jaipur and its second home ground is Narendra Modi stadium,Ahmedabad.

The owners of RR are Manoj Badale and Lachlan Murdoch.

This team won the first IPL season of 2008 under the captaincy of Shane Warne.

The team’s record run scorer is Ajinkya Rahane with 3098 runs and its leading Wicket taker is Shane Watson with 67 wickets.

After the 2008 IPL, RR reached playoffs three times but they were unable to win any other IPL seasons.

RR is still awaiting its second title.

At start this team was heavily underestimated and considered as the weakest team in IPL 2008.

In 2008 RR lost their first with a 9 wicket loss against Delhi Daredevils(now Delhi Capitals).

But they played very well in other matches and in the final match they beat Chennai Super Kings  with the help of Yusuf Pathan’s great score and he was awarded man of the match award for the final match.

Shane Watson was declared the man of the series in which they won the first IPL season.

RR is a pretty scandalous team also as its name came out in many scandals like 2013 spot fixing case and 2015 betting scandal.

The Rajasthan Royals along with Chennai Super Kings were banned for 2 years in the 2015 betting scandal and its owner Raj Kundra was banned for life in the IPL.
